Cylinder Head Installation Instructions

DOVER CYLINDER HEADS are completely reconditioned and thoroughly tested at the factory. To insure proper installation, please see our Cylinder Head Installation: Recommended Steps & Information.

Our Procedure
for Reconditioning
Cylinder Heads:

  1. Heads are disassembled and thoroughly cleaned.
  2. All valves, springs, retainers cleaned separately.
  3. Gaskets removed and heads buffed of excess carbon.
  4. Spring Pressure: checked by Mechanical testor against OEM specifications.
  5. Valves:
    • Wear checked
    • Warped checked
    • Margin checked
    • Stem end refaced
    • Face precision ground
  6. Head:
    • Surface straightness checked
    • Magnafluxed for cracks
    • Guides checked for excessive wear
    • Seats checked and ground to proper width and angle
    • Studs checked for damage, proper heights
  7. Assembly:
    • Valve stem heights checked and set
    • Assembled to factory specifications
    • Vacuum bench check for leakage between valves and seats
    • Head is painted, then bagged for convenience
